Nice is nice!

6/8

Where do I begin? Visiting Nice, France in the French Riviera has been on my radar for quite sometime. Especially since one of my best friends, Maddie, always spoke so highly of it. Maddie lived there for a few years during her childhood. (SO LUCKY!)

Getting from Annecy to Nice was an adventure in itself. Has anyone seen the movie, Trains, Planes, and Automobiles?   It's one of my favorites so if you haven't you better get to it! I always get nervous travelling. Nico helped calm me down by making me laugh and quoting the movie. Instead our adventure would be called "trains, planes, and autobus."  We arrived at the train station to catch our bus to Lyon.

Don't let the smile fool you. I was a wreck for the entire hour and fifty-two minutes it took to get there. Our driver seemed like an experienced driver, but he was tailing every car we approached and would weave in and out of the lanes. WE WERE IN THE ALPS! It was not a flat highway. There were a ton of steep hills! A woman in front of us was a little more terrified and whole lot more vocal about it. There was an 18 wheeler that was grinding on the guard rail and our bus driver thought it would be safe to tail him until we could get over. The woman was livid and yelling. I was happy she was speaking up. We threw our hands up in unison.

I wanted to kiss the ground when we arrived in Lyon.

We had a 4 hour train ride ahead of us. It went pretty quickly. Travelling by train is the way to go. No more buses.

When we started to see that gorgeous blue water we perked right up!

Once we arrived we took a 10 minute Uber towards the sea! We decided to treat ourselves to an apartment with a sea view. By far the best AirBnB we've ever stayed in.

Again...the staircase. We huffed and we puffed and somehow dragged out 50+ pound bags up.

Once we reached the top it was all worth it.

and the best part.

We were actually speechless. Our host also named, Nicolas, showed us around the place and gave us a bottle of Rosè.

We dropped our bags and opened that baby right up!

We decided to walk down the street and get some groceries and grab a pizza to go. Oh and another bottle of Rosè of course! We just wanted to sit on our deck all night.

It doesn't look very pretty, but it was AMAZING!

After a night in, we woke up the next day and had the most peaceful morning coffee.

We didn't have major plans. We took this trip day by day. We decided to stop by the local boulangerie for a fresh baguette. We planned to pack a lunch and spend the day on the beach.

We picked up sunscreen on the way back. 17€!!!! For this. Hawaiian tropic. Meh.

Yum!

We were warned the beach has rocks instead of sand. Pretty uncomfortable at first, but honestly you get used to it.

Time for more Rosè!

After hours spent at the beach we decided to head home and freshen up. We needed to explore this city we were falling in love with so quickly.

#ilovenice

The streets are lined with flowers and old, beautiful architecture.

This was one of my favorite buildings.

After strolling around for a little we decided to grab some dinner. They have this little market area lined with artisans and restaurants.

We chose this restaurant based off their happy hour selection!

Yum! Yum! Yum!

There were armed military men all over the place. It honestly made me feel very safe knowing they were patrolling the area.

After dinner we wanted to keep strolling around.

We found Lady Liberty!

The square!  So. Much. Shopping.

The weather couldn't have been more perfect. We continued our exploration, aimlessly wandering the streets of this enchanting city for a few hours.

Next day: Monaco! Let's just say Nico and I didn't win big at Monte Carlo Casino, but that will have to be another post.

Until next time!

love,
